The Event ~ Making Hay While the Sun Shines

The rain stopped and the sun shone!   Today, day two of sunshine, the equipment hit the fields and Tim was back to making hay. 

1500 bales continued to rot in the field while trying to dry out, even after turning twice, but hopefully will get picked up and stacked before the next forecast rain, which could be tonite.  It's mediocre cow feed at best.

72 more acres were swathed last nite and today, followed closely behind by the rake and the chopper.  First cutting suffered a late freeze and stunted the growth.  The quickest way to deal with it is to have it chopped and trucked to the feedlots, to allow second cutting to grow and thrive.  The outfit moves fast across these fields in a day, and then will move on to  70 acres a mile south.  It's not a productive harvest, but its quick. 

All of our horse customers will have to wait till second cutting.  Hopefully, weather will cooperate so we can lay in an abundant supply of quality hay in July.

I also took adavantage of the weather last nite and during my lunch hour today and mowed the lawn.
